MetaSystems and Märzhäuser Wetzlar donate state-of-the-art medical equipment to Ukrainian children's clinic

May 7, 2025

Kyjiw, Ukraine - On July 8, 2024, rockets hit Ukraine's largest children's clinic Ochmatdyt in the capital Kyjiw. The attack claimed the lives of two adults and injured 30 other people, including ten children. The hospital, which provides vital treatment for many children with cancer and other serious illnesses, was badly damaged and is no longer able to function without extensive repairs.

The clinic's laboratory workspace, equipped with a microscopy workstation and MetaSystems' Isis software, was also destroyed. In close cooperation with Märzhäuser Wetzlar GmbH & Co. KG, the manufacturer of the motorized stages used in Metafer installations, MetaSystems has decided to compensate for the loss with a generous donation.

The destroyed workstation will be replaced by a complete metaphase finder based on Metafer software and Ikaros for karyogram generation. The donation also includes a motorized microscope. In addition, a separate workstation will be set up to enable the evaluation and processing of image data and reporting by the doctors - even if other cases are already being digitized on the Metafer installation.

The new installation will be state of the art and will also support DNN-based karyogram generation. Dr. Andreas Pfuhl, Managing Director of MetaSystems, emphasized: "The destruction of medical infrastructure, especially pediatric facilities, is a difficult side effect of this war to bear. When we heard about the destruction of one of our customer installations, there was no question that we would compensate for this loss. We are very pleased that we were also able to win over our long-standing business partner Märzhäuser Wetzlar GmbH for this project."

The new workstations are currently being configured and, in cooperation with the Ukrainian partner AMK MS LLC, are expected to be on their way to Kyjiw in just a few days.
