40 Years of MetaSystems & 10 Years of MetaSystems Probes

In 1986, MetaSystems started with a simple idea: to use technology to make microscopic imaging more efficient. Four decades later, this remains a central part of our work.

Over the years, MetaSystems has developed into an internationally operating technology group providing solutions for a broad range of laboratory applications. Our work combines automated microscopy, image acquisition, and software-based image processing with application-specific expertise.

From Automated Microscopy to Intelligent Image Processing

Automation has been an important part of MetaSystems from the beginning. With the Metafer Platform Software, automated microscopy workflows can be adapted to different application requirements. Developments in image processing have expanded these possibilities over time.

Customization Packages extend the Metafer platform for specialized workflows. They are developed together with application specialists and users to address specific requirements in automated microscopy. This approach allows technologies developed for a broad range of applications to be adapted to individual laboratory workflows.

Today, Deep Neural Networks are used in several MetaSystems workflows to support specific tasks, including chromosome classification, sperm detection, mycobacteria detection, and blood cell classification. These technologies can help process large numbers of images and support experts in reviewing relevant findings.

An International Network

Over the past 40 years, MetaSystems has established an international network of subsidiaries and distribution partners. Together, they support customers in many countries and contribute local application knowledge and experience. Close contact with users and partners also provides important feedback for the further development of our products and workflows.

10 Years of MetaSystems Probes

2026 also marks the 10th anniversary of MetaSystems Probes. Established as a sister company of MetaSystems, MetaSystems Probes focuses on the development and production of DNA FISH probes.

Over the past decade, the company has expanded its portfolio, combining probe development and production with the application expertise of the MetaSystems group. The introduction of IVDR-certified XCyting probes marks another step in the continued development of the portfolio.
