In October 2024, Microsoft began the phased roll-out of the Windows 11 Feature Update 2024H2, gradually expanding its availability to various markets. While minor issues are not uncommon with new updates and are typically resolved quickly, the 2024H2 update has unfortunately been afflicted by more serious problems, which Microsoft has now communicated (read more here).

For MetaSystems products, the update caused significant issues with cameras (CC1 and CC4P) and microscope control (Z2). The only way to restore full system functionality was to uninstall the Windows 11 Feature Update 2024H2 and revert to the 2023H2 version. This behavior was successfully replicated on internal test systems. Through extensive testing with standard hardware and the latest drivers, we determined that the Windows 11 Feature Update 2024H2 suffers from significant memory access errors unrelated to MetaSystems’ software or hardware.

Should Microsoft proceed with the widespread distribution of the Windows 11 Feature Update 2024H2, many systems in the field could face operational disruptions. For now, we strongly recommend refraining from installing the 2024H2 update until it has been thoroughly reviewed and approved by MetaSystems. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
